| wow...I haven't posted in a loooong time. Well, I'm back at home after my Montana adventure. Boy, I LOOOOOOVE Montana. I hope to go back sometime in the not too far away future. I'll try to give a summary of the summer, but so much exciting stuff happened that I know I won't do it justice.
On the flight over, I met a guy named Todd who happened to go to Montana State. He just started in the graduate program in architecture. We exchanged numbers at the end of the flight (because I told him about my fear of boredom), and we ended up hanging out at least once a week throughout the summer. The first 2 weeks of boot-camp were pretty boring. I finally started in my lab and found out that I was doing bioinformatics...aka...sitting in front of the computer all day. I did that for 4 weeks. Then I did nothing for a week. Then I slowly started to do the actual lab benchwork that I had been wanting to do. After giving my research experience a WAY below average ranking at one of the program's weekly meetings, the lady in charge of the program contacted my mentor, and he and I had a chat in his office during which he told me that "the concerns you have expressed are those typical of someone who wants to become a lab technician, not a Ph. D." Needless to say, he and I did not see eye-to-eye. To sum up my lab experience, I got paid a lot to sit around and read and chat online. The first few weeks, several of us walked to different churches on Sunday for church, but we couldn't find any that we really liked. One of the guys in the program who went to Montana State invited us to come with him to his church, so Ashley and I went. It was a Church of Christ, and I'd only been to a Church of Christ once...but I fell in love with this church. There were so many loving, caring, just simply amazing Christians in this church, and they took me in, accepted me, and got to know me like I was their child. I was even included in the going away luau for college kids in the congregation who were going out of state to college. People in the church who I hadn't even met would come up to me and know who I was and where I was from. The saddest part about leaving Montana for me was leaving the church. In terms of weekends and fun stuff, I hiked a LOT, floated down the Madison River, went to the Livingston Rodeo (and saw Uncle Joey from Full House!), went to the car races at the Gallatin Speedway, went to Yellowstone twice, hiked and camped in Glacier National Park, camped in the Crazy Mountains with my lab, and best of all....went ROCK CLIMBING. Glacier is probably the most beautiful place I've ever been in my life. My pictures look like postcards, and rock climbing is my new favorite hobby...too bad there's nowhere to do it in Mississippi. Best of all, I met some amazing people--Ashley, LeeAnna, Todd, Shane, Lexi, and Julian. I will miss you all dearly. I must say, Julian (who took me to church and rock climbing) is probably one of the most amazing people I've ever met in my whole life. His "story" is awe-inspiring and truly an amazing testimony to God's amazing power. Amazing people and amazing summer.....oh Montana!
and the summer isn't even over!
Tomorrow I leave to spend the weekend in Oxford with Garrett, Maegan, Laura, Jeegna, Hayley, and Steven!!!!! | | |

| so i'm feeling super sappy i just watched the notebook for the first time by myself i thought i was going to make it to the end without crying...however, 2 little tears did manage to escape at the end and now i'm just sitting here thinking...looking at pictures from this past semester (sappy)...listening to my new favorite song...Schumann's Dreaming (sappy)...which reminds me of music 103 and studying for the final (sappy) if i had never taken that class i may have never discovered my love for schumann...haha...who ironically fell in love with clara wieke who was also a composer and they had the classic "romantic era" relationship...longing for that which is unattainable (sappy) but for them it was in more than one way anyway...tomorrow morning i'm going to church with 2 of the girls in my program and i'm excited...and i should probably get to bed if i plan on paying attention during the sermon

| montana is beautiful...bozeman is in a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides....
however, the facilities make me so thankful that i go to princeton... i'm staying in what's supposed to be a double, but i have it as a single....man...if i had to live in this thing all year as a double....i think i would go insane...there are 2 beds (with really hard mattresses), 2 tiny desks, a sink and 2 closets and some drawers...and no room for anything else...the bathrooms are decent i had to pay $60!!!!! to have internet in my room...$6 a week...ridiculous.... and laundry is a dollar a load, but i'm planning on paying w/that w/my lunch money (lol) they gave us $350 to use for lunch in the student union...but it's only open from like 11 to 2...dinners are on our own
we actually don't start working in the lab for 2 weeks...we're going through "boot camp" now, which means learning remedial techniques and meaningless discussions...but they already gave us a $1100 check
there are 3 other groups here so far that i've met...w/in my group i've met some cool people although some i think will become grating by the end of the summer (or the week)
they've already planned a trip for us to yellowstone...some of us are hoping to also go to glacier national park....and this weekend we might head for a hike up to the "M" that's on the mountain overlooking the town the weather is AMAZING...it's probably like mid-70's...NO humidity, beautiful sunshine, light breeze
however, the beauty of the mountains and the allure of facebook can only keep me entertained for so long....i'm scared i'm going to get sooo bored. maybe i'll get some reading done that i've been hoping to do? and since i DO have cell phone service...this means call me and save me from my boredom...you will be the bright spot in my day (if you don't mind me occasionally breaking up...cause i AM in the mountains) i also met this guy on the plane that goes here who said he wouldn't mind showing me around, hanging out, going out to dinner, etc. so i gave him my number. he texted me today and we'll probably go out to dinner or something later this week...that should provide some entertainment outside of the REU group yay!
